Sony Network Communications is committed to protecting personal information in accordance with the JIS standard.
As part of these efforts, we became the first internet service provider to obtain the Privacy Mark on November 24, 1999.

This mark is based on the "" implemented by the Japan Institute for Promotion of Digital Economy and Community, and we have been authorized to use this mark as proof we handle personal information appropriately in accordance with the "JIS Q 15001 Requirements for Compliance Programs Concerning Personal Information Protection" established by the Japanese Standards Association.

Privacy Policy

As a member of the Sony Group, we will comply with the common Privacy Policy for the Sony Group affiliated companies in Japan* and always keep the following in mind in order to properly handle personal information provided by our customers as an Internet service provider.

Common Privacy Policy for the Sony Group affiliated companies in Japan (*)

Each company of the Sony Group (collectively, “Sony”) has built an environment in which the personal information of customers is safely stored, used, and handled with respect for their wishes, and hopes to continue to provide numerous services within this environment that gain the trust of customers and inspire and fulfil people’s curiosity. Under this policy, and in accordance with Sony's philosophy of honesty and fairness, Sony has prescribed the following policy on the handling of personal information and is committed to the proper handling of personal information collected about its customers.

*This policy applies to Sony Group Corporation. and its subsidiaries in Japan.

Handling of Personal Information

Definition of Personal Information

1.In this policy, "personal information" means any information regarding an individual which contains name, date of birth, or other description that enable identification of such an individual, or which contains a personal identification code(*note). Information collected about customers that cannot identify a specific individual on its own, but can be used in combination with other information to identify a specific individual, shall be treated as “personal information” to the extent that it is used in combination with other information.

Compliance with Laws

2.When handling personal information, Sony shall comply with the obligations set forth in the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, various other laws and regulations relating to the protection of personal information, guidelines published by the Personal Information Protection Commission and other competent authorities, as well as this policy.

Use within the Scope of Purpose of Use

3.Sony shall handle personal information within the scope required to achieve the previously specified purpose of use and shall take measures so that personal information is handled within this scope, except when the prior consent of the individual has been obtained or when permitted by law.

Acquisition of Personal Information

4.When acquiring personal information, Sony shall endeavor to obtain the consent of the individual concerned after explicitly stating in advance the items of personal information to be handled, the purpose of use, the contact information for inquiries, and other necessary information. In cases where personal information includes sensitive personal information such as race and creed, we will not acquire personal information without the consent of the individual, except as permitted by law. In cases where personal information is acquired from a third party and there is a legal obligation to confirm and record the receipt of such information provided by the third party, we will comply with such obligation.

Personal Information of Customers Under the Age of 15

5.Sony shall endeavor to comply with all laws and regulations applicable to the collection, storage, and use of personal information relating to customers under the age of 15. If it becomes apparent that a child may have provided personal information to Sony without the consent of the parent or guardian, the parent or guardian should contact the address set forth in this policy.

Security Control Measures

6.Sony shall endeavor to keep personal information accurate, complete, and up to date within the scope of the purpose of use, and shall take necessary and appropriate security control measures and corrective actions in accordance with current technical standards to prevent unauthorized access, leakage, alteration, loss, damage, etc.

Supervision of Outsourced Contractors

7.Sony may outsource the handling of personal information to another Sony Group company or third party to the extent necessary to achieve the purpose of use. In such cases, appropriate security control measures shall be taken under the Sony Group common information security policy. With regard to the outsourcing of operations to a third party, we will ensure appropriate security control of the handling of personal information through a contract or other means. When outsourcing operations to a third party in a foreign country, we will comply with any legal obligation to create records.

Provision of Information to Third Parties

8.Sony will not provide personal information to a third party without the consent of the individual concerned, except as permitted by law. In cases where personal information is provided to a third party and there is a legal obligation to record the provision of such information to the third party, we will comply with such obligation. We will not provide personal information to a third party using the opt-out system (Paragraph 2, Article 23 of the Act on the Protection of Personal Information).

Responding to Inquiries

9.Sony shall respond appropriately to inquiries regarding the disclosure, correction, suspension of use (introduction of products and services, etc.), deletion, and other handling of personal information in accordance with the provisions of the law. Please contact the relevant office of the company to which you provided the personal information.

Strengthening of Systems, Training, Etc.

10.To ensure the appropriate handling of personal information, Sony shall endeavor to continuously strengthen and improve its internal systems, including reviewing this policy, by appointing a manager of personal information, establishing internal regulations, training executives and employees, conducting appropriate internal audits, and so on.

Note: "Personal identification code" is defined in ordinance of the Personal Information Protection Commission. As of the date of this policy revision, the definition includes: (1) (a) DNA base sequence; (b) facial features determined by facial structure and skin color, and the position and shape of the eyes, nose, mouth, and other facial parts; (c) the linear pattern formed by undulations on the surface of the iris; (d) the vibration of the vocal cords during vocalization, the opening and closing of the glottis, and the shape of the vocal tract and its changes; (e) posture and arm movements when walking, stride length, and other gait characteristics; (f) the shape of the veins of the palm or the back of the hand or fingers as determined by the branches and ends of the veins under the skin; (g) fingerprints or palm prints; (2) passport number, basic pension number, driver's license number, resident register code, and individual number; and (3) the letters, numbers, symbols, and other signs written on national health insurance cards, latter-stage elderly healthcare system cards, and long-term care insurance cards which are unique for each card holder.
